The Southern Nevada Travel Survey app serves to streamline household travel surveys for public agencies through automation. Participation in each survey is exclusive, with every selected household member engaging voluntarily. The app is developed by ETC Institute, acting as the Consultant overseeing the travel survey on behalf of local, regional, or statewide public agencies such as the Department of Transportation. The data ownership is transparent, with the agency's name disclosed within the app and through communication with participating households.

Household members aged 18 and above, or 13 and older with adult consent, are invited to partake in the survey by downloading and installing the app. Using a designated PIN representing their household, participants select their name from a list and accurately allocate their trips. ETC Institute collects contact information beforehand to address any inquiries or updates to the user’s trip diary during or after data collection. Once logged in, the app automatically tracks and records a user's stops over a designated period, typically 24 hours. Users are prompted to review each stop and respond to specific questions before submitting their completed trip diary.

Users are informed that the app leverages GPS location on their smartphones or tablets to detect stops, trace approximate travel paths, and streamline the review process. With consent, the app can also utilize the device's accelerometer and gyroscope sensors to confirm stops accurately. ETC ensures that each participant's identity remains confidential, maintaining a transparent data privacy policy accessible through a direct link on their company website.
